Backup ?

I using the latest and greatest sp on sql2k. I had a failure the other day
on one of our production servers and the guy that used to maintain is gone.
Here is the strategy I am thinking of
Full Recovery Model,
3am - Backup the Db and transaction log
7am - first shift arrives
8am - first differential backup (runs every hour on the hour)
8:30am - first transaction log backup (runs everyhour on the half hour)
This will run all day until 2nd shift leaves at around midnight.
What I want to know is this, I look at the differential backup and see a
name for the last full backup preformed. When this differential backup runs
tomorrow morning will it be hitting the newly created 3am backup or the one
from yesterday when I created the differential backup.

I'm not sure where you "see" the name of the full backup. Also, what do you mean by "hitting the newly created
3am backup". Perhaps you can rephrase or explain a bit further. Or even post some BACKUP and/or RESTORE
commands?

Backspace, Home, Arrow keys (etc) don't work in SQL2K5 SSMS

When I edit a sql script in SQL2K% SSMS, the backspace, home, arrow keys (and several others) outright do not work.

I have uninstalled and installed SQL2K5 sever times for a resolution to this problem.

What is unique about this installation is that I have a SQL2K instance running on the same machine. I need to support both versions of SQL2K and SQL2K5.

Also, In the tollbar thare are 4 repitions of each menu item (4 File, 4 Edit, 4 View).

I have tried several tool options to no avail. I have deleted the vsk file (no help).

I am running W2K Pro (SP4).

Did anyone else have problems with SSMS after a SQL2K5 side-by-side install with SQL2K?

Can anyone provide a cluse on what to do next?

Backspace doesn't work in SSMS

This week, I installed SQL2K5 (SP2) on two W2K servers.

On 1 server (W2K Server), I deleted SQL2K and installed SQL2K5 using the default instance. This server works OK.

On another machine (W2K Pro), I retained my SQL2K default instance of the SQL2K db engine and installed SQL2K5 as a new named instance (i.e. SQL2005).

When I go into SSMS on the 2nd machine and edit an sql script, the backspace, home, delete (and other directional key) keys from the keyboard do absolutely nothing.

SSMS on the 1st machine works just fine.

I have looked at SSMS's customizations and tried several changes to no avail...

Does anyone know what I need to do in SSMS?

you may need to re-install the client tool... select only workstation components from the CD and re-install it...
