I have MSSQL 2000 and I am using Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 to backup
SQL.
I resently deleted a Database and now the JOB fails with error:
0xa000fe09 - DBASE_NAME cannot find/connect to database or its
directories.
The database is not listed in the job selection either? Is there
anyway I can stop Veritas reporting the failure for a non-exsistant
database?
TIAIn the backup selections list, select Text view, which will then give you a
list of all the things being backed up (rather than the graphical display),
you should find that the db which you have deleted is listed there, so you
can manually delete it from the list.
The graphical display won't display it, as the items to be backed up are
displayed live from the server, so since the db is no longer there, it can't
display it, and therefore can't show that it is selected. It's a fairly well
known "feature" of all versions of Backup Exec.

Backup Failed? cannot find deleted database
Hi,
I have MSSQL 2000 and I am using Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 to backup
SQL.

Backup Exec/SQL Server
Anyone have any experience with Veritas Backup Exec and backing up your db's?
This past week I noticed one of my servers HD's was almost maxed out 200 gig. The log file for one of the db's was 137 gig. So, I made sure the db was backed up (through Backup Exec) and I ran SHRINKFILE on the Trans-Log. Anyway, I guess what I want to make sure is that since I ran the SHRINKFILE, does anyone know for sure that Backup Exec will be able to completely restore the db? It kinda made me paranoid since I'm relatively new to this, and we're not doing the backups with SQL Server.You should not have a problem restoring. Backup Exec should just restore the backed up transaction log over the top of the current one.

Backup Error
After applying Win2K SP3 earlier this month, our Veritas
tape backups started failing with the following errors:
BackupMedium::ReportIoError: write failure on backup
device 'VNBU0-2000-2912'. Operating system error 995(The
I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread
exit or an application request.).
Internal I/O request 0x4431FAE8: Op: Write, pBuffer:
0x28A70200, Size: 512, Position: 0, UMS: Internal:
0x65E5A030, InternalHigh: 0x0, Offset: 0x1, OffsetHigh:
0x4862F628, m_buf: 0x00000012, m_len: 1, m_actualBytes: 0,
m_errcode: 995, BackupFile: VNBU0-2000-2912
I also started getting the following error reported around
the same time of day:
The SQL Server cannot obtain a LOCK resource at this time.
Rerun your statement when there are fewer active users or
ask the system administrator to check the SQL Server lock
and memory configuration..
I am able to do a regular dump to disk with no errors.
Any ideas on resolution here?

Backup db files
I am currently using Veritas Netbackup to backup the filesystem on my SQL
server.
Currently, a whole host of .mdf and .ldf files in the <\Program
Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data> directory are skipped by the backup
software because they are in use by another process.
Is there any way to perform a flatfile backup of MSSQL database without
using any software agents? Or must the db be offlined each time in order to
free up those .mdf/.ldf files to be backed up?

You need to use SQL Server's own native backups to backup the database while
its online. That's something you should definitely do anyway because you
have many more options to control just how the files get backed up and
restored. Read the backup topics in SQL Server Books Online.

backups through their software.

Veritas has an agent module that allows you to manage native SQL Server
backups through their software.

Whenever possible please post enough code to reproduce your problem.
Including CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements usually helps.
State what version of SQL Server you are using and specify the content
of any error messages.

You cannot copy files while a database is in use, however you will be able
to issue BACKUP DATABASE command

Backing up Windows Server with SQL server installed
I'm trying to find a way to shutdown the SQL server service on a Windows
Server 2003, SQL server 2000 SP3. Veritas Netbackup 4.5.
I'm currently backuping the SQL server throught the SQL server maintenance
plans and it works fine.
Now when I try to backup the entire server with netbackup the SQL database
files are not getting backed up because they are open. We currently do not
have a SQL client agent license for the netbackup so I want to shut down the
SQL server durning the netbackup process and turn it back on after.
I have tried to use net stop and start but SQL seems to restart on it's own
before the backup process is finished. Does anyone know of another method
to shut down the SQL server gracefully and start it back up again through a
batch file or script ? Any help would be great.

Chris IThis is the wrong way to back up SQL Server database files. Either you run
a sp_detach_db statement first, then back up the files, or you use the
standard BACKUP T-SQL commands. Stopping the service and backing up the
files is wrong.
